Whitetail Deer Hunts

Whitetail Trophy Bucks Abound in Legendary Saskatchewan.

If the word Saskatchewan doesn’t summon visions of rugged mountain men, gargantuan expanses of frozen wilderness, and snow-tinged whitetails in that perfect clearing, then we simply don’t know what could. Saskatchewan is virtually synonymous with adventure, nature, and freedom, especially for the daydreaming sportsmen, yearning for their first taste of the Saskatchewan whitetail-hunting season.
Many Saskatchewan outfitters hunt in or near the provincial forest, approximately 30 miles south east of Meadow Lake. Consisting of thousands and thousands of acres of invigorating wilderness, Saskatchewan offers the best deer habitat and White Tail deer genetics in the Saskatchewan region.
Accommodations in Saskatchewan hunting often include warm, comfortable, oil heated, classic wooden cabins, which allow for a truly northern wilderness experience, while in pursuit of your trophy Whitetail deer. Generators can also be set up for power, if needed. Many of these accommodations are also quite secluded, so be sure it’s somewhere you actually want to be when hunting whitetail.
Some outfitters even include fully modern housing, emulating all the comforts of home while hunting in the northern Saskatchewan wilderness. This way, the non-hunters can stay behind and play cards, while you’re out chasing a trophy Saskatchewan whitetail! Additionally, there are plenty of archery hunts in the Saskatchewan region, as previously discussed, so you can snag a whitetail the rifle way, and your hunting buddy can choose his bow, once in a while; Saskatchewan is a great hunting opportunity for archery enthusiasts.
In the forest, the most productive means of acquiring a worthwhile whitetail is in a tree stand.  There are also some heated, enclosed stands for cold-weather hunting, as many sit in the stand all day. All it takes is 15 seconds and if you are not there in those 15 seconds, your dream whitetail will keep on going! Bring the rifle you are used to using, and keep in mind that most whitetail shots taken are within 50 yards. If you have a choice of rifle, 30.06, 7mm. or 300 are good, due to their knock-down factor.
In Saskatchewan, the normal daytime temperature during the whitetail hunting season is 25 degrees F. and 10 degrees F. at night time, but it can be as warm as 45 degrees F. in the daytime, but watch out for a punishingly low a -20 degrees F., and come prepared for the extremes. Some of Saskatchewan’s best deer movement happens in colder weather, so you want to be out hunting whitetail when it gets cold!
