Montana Elk Hunting: conducted in hunting area 280, which is one of only three areas in the state that offer early season bugle hunts, starting September 15th, with a rifle. That gives us a huge advantage during the peak of the rut! Hunting area 280 has a brow-tine bull regulation and that produces an excellent mature bull to cow ratio. Our elk numbers are above Montana FWP objectives, this also enables our hunters to harvest a cow should they desire. Most of our hunters choose the combination license on this hunt, as we have some trophy mule deer and a creek full of cutthroat trout as well. These Scapegoat Wilderness Hunts are limited to 6 hunters per hunt.
Trophy Bull ElkAccommodations: Our 2 tent camps in the Scapegoat Wilderness are 14 & 18 miles from Indian Meadows Trailhead, which is 60 miles NW of Helena, Montana. Accommodations in our camp consist of an 18 x 24 cook tent, 14 x 17 sleeping tents, a shower tent, and a tack & equipment tent. Each sleeping tent handles 3-4 people with cots and foam pads, a wood stove, and plenty of room for personal gear, and are quite comfortable for all types of weather. Meals are prepared by a fulltime cook and served family style in the cook tent for breakfast and dinner, with daily sack lunches provided for each hunter. You will enjoy hearty meals of roasts, ham, turkey, steaks and plenty of fresh baked goodies.

Trophy Mule Deer Hunt Accommodations:are conducted in the Deer Creek Drainages of area 560 where we are the only permitted outfitter. In 2006, the Derby Mountain Fire burned over most of the area, as a result of the fire; our late season rut hunts for the mule deer have been incredibly successful. The increased forage has accounted for an increase in the overall mule deer population and the bucks we are harvesting have exceptional mass. Our goal is to harvest bucks in the 5 - 8 year old range. The spotting scope is our best tool during this hunt, because if we can spot them, we will be on them. Most of our hunters choose the combination license on this hunt, as the increased forage has attracted a good number of bachelor bull herds in November.
Trophy Mule Deer: Hunting Area 560 (Deer Creek) is located near Big Timber, which is 75 miles East of Billings, Montana. The accommodations for our Deer Creek Mule Deer Hunts consists of a bunkhouse which has beds, a bathroom, a refrigerator, and the luxury of electric boot dryers, that comfortably handles 5 hunters. Family style meals are prepared by my wife Julie, in our home, and you will not go hungry!
Mountain Goat Hunting: We hunt the mountain goats in the Boulder River drainage (region 323) late in the season when the snow has come and the Billy’s are in the peak of rut. While the weather is less predictable, the hide is in absolutely prime condition with the long winter hair which results in maximum “chaps”, with the added advantage that the goats are more consolidated.
This is the ultimate spot and stalk hunt where the day is spent spotting the goats on the mountain side. When the trophy is spotted, the stalk strategy and course is established and then the excitement of the stalk and the final taking of the “king” of the mountain – a trophy Billy!
We use the horses and mules to carry you, the guide, the gear, the traveling camp and the trophy. This ensures that the hunter and guide save their energy for the stalk, which is primarily on foot.
