GO HUNTING RED STAG

Hunters will find the World's greatest red deer herds on offer in New Zealand, with the magnificent red stag being the most sought after trophy hunted at Kaweka Hunting. Introduced into New Zealand in 1851 from top Scottish and English herds, red stag thrive in our country due to the mild climate and lack of predators.

                

A red stag hunt in New Zealand is a soulful experience every hunter should enjoy at least once in a lifetime. The regal 'air' of the majestic red stag is such that once out in the field it is easy for the hunter to imagine why red stag hunting was once regarded as the 'Sport of Kings'

                     

GO HUNTING ELK

Trophy South Pacific Elk, most commonly referred to as Wapiti are from the blood lines of the Rocky Mountain Elk and were originally gifted to New Zealand in the early 1900's by Theodore Roosevelt. Trophy Elk can only be hunted in game estates in New Zealand, as free ranging populations have almost all disappeared. Good genetic quality ensures a rewarding elk hunt in New Zealand, with trophy elk scoring up to and over SCI 400.

GO HUNTING FALLOW

The distinctive paddles will often give a Fallow buck away as he watches from a warm valley. Always alert, a Fallow buck will often spot the eager hunter from high on an open ridge.

                 

It can be thrilling to hunt Fallow in New Zealand during the rut. Usually timid and small in body size, the Fallow buck is very aggressive during the rut when hunters can occasionally witness vicious and even fatal fights between the bucks of this species often accompanied by a guttural croaking noise.

GO HUNTING SIKA

The Sika deer herd at Kaweka Hunting is known in New Zealand for its impressive genetic quality, with a possible World #2 taken in April 2008. Our superior herd is highly sought after, with several large trophies over SCI 140 taken each season. Sika deer are a favourite of many New Zealand hunters and of international trophy hunters alike. Regarded as a handsome deer a sika stag makes a beautiful trophy. Exciting to hunt, sika are particularly vocal when disturbed or alarmed.

Liberated into the nearby Kaweka Ranges during 1905, New Zealand's only free range sika deer herd is located in the central north island. Authentic free range sika hunting is accessible from our wilderness hut at the top of our ranch, where hunters can camp out for a night or two.

Typical Sika have 8 points (4x4) and are significantly smaller than red deer, with a dark 'dorsal' strip running from neck to tail.
