     Welcome to Huckleberry Ridge Hunting Preserve

Huckleberry Ridge Hunting Preserve is a Hunting, Waterfowling and Fishing experience you will never forget. Our hunting preserve in Tarboro, Edgecombe County, NC with over 5000 woodland acres along the Swift Creek, Fishing Creek, Deep Creek, and Tar River is managed for Ducks, Deer, Turkey, Dove, and Upland Game Birds including, Quail, Pheasant and Chukar. Hog Island Point, our private island in the Pamlico Sound of Carteret County, is available for Sea Duck Hunts and Fishing trips.

We have Experienced Hunting Guides that can assist you with all your hunting needs. Kennels are on site if you have your own dogs or trained hunting dogs can be provided.

Whitetail Deer: As part of our deer management program here at Huckleberry Ridge,
we plant and maintain various forages and pasture crops year round, including corn, chicory, rape, soybean, peanuts, clover, sweet potatoes, sugar beets, lespedeza, and a mix of small grains to attract the native whitetail deer to our game preserve and provide the nutrients necessary to develop massive antlers. These food sources are amongst over 5000 acres of mixed oak woods (for acorns), pastures and bottomland along the Tar River, Deep Creek, Swift Creek, and Fishing Creek that make up our hunting preserve and offer the perfect habitat for
Whitetail Deer to breed and multiply.

        

Hunting Stands: Huckleberry Ridge has a total of 56 deer hunting stands including 42 box stands (that will accommodate two hunters), 10 ladder stands, and 6 tree stands.

Eastern Wild Turkey: The Sawtooth, White and Overcup Oak trees that make up our hardwood bottomland along the banks of the Tar River, Fishing Creek, Swift Creek, and Deep Creek here in Edgecombe county, North Carolina, provide a superior habitat for Wild Turkey, offering a natural food source and safe roosting sites. We also maintain a variety of food plots, including chufa, a spring mix of small grains along with numerous clover ridges for bugging and strutting areas to attract and maintain a Heavy Wild Turkey Population.

Quail Hunts: When you're finished with your early morning Duck Hunting, as long as you've got the dogs all warmed up, it's a great time to take advantage of our vast acreage available for Upland Game Bird Hunting. Our pine ridges mixed with fields of perennial grasses, lespedeza, milo, and small grains, are the perfect environment for Quail and Pheasant.

Black Bear Hunts: 1 Bear per hunt / per season limit. Taxidermy services are available for an additional fee.

Accommodations: Lodging is available at the Batts House, an historic ca. 1880 plantation home located on the property. Offering five bedrooms, large living areas and a fully equipped kitchen, you'll feel right at home and have enough room to bring friends and family, too. We also rent out the house for group hunts or functions and offer catering services! The Dr. Dempsey Bryan Batts House is an historic plantation home located on the Preserve. It was built in 1880 and offers gracious accommodations to those who hunt with us. Capable of accommodating up to 16 people, the house has five bedrooms, each with their own fireplaces.
