                                              King of Alaska Fishing Lodges

ALASKA’S BOARDWALK LODGE is located in the lush rainforest of Prince of Wales Island, just 35 minutes from Ketchikan in Southeast Alaska. This world-class fishing lodge bears the elite Orvis fly fishing lodge endorsement — demonstrating its exceptional fishing, facilities and commitment to excellence as one of the best fishing lodges in Alaska.

                  Alaska Fishing Lodge.

Three times voted “Lodge of the Year,” this breathtaking resort has been dubbed “King of Alaska Fishing Lodges.” The lodge offers the best of both worlds: exceptional saltwater fishing and fly fishing. Our Orvis endorsed guides lead daily freshwater excursions with your choice of 23 lakes rivers and streams nearby. While U.S. Coast Guard certified skippers charter our 28-foot fishing boats for saltwater adventures — targeting halibut, king salmon, silver salmon and several other species.

At Boardwalk, it’s not just the fishing — there’s something for everyone. Many guests enjoy a host of non-fishing adventures for individuals, couples, families and large groups alike. The lodge staff works tirelessly to ensure your Alaska adventure is most memorable. Our guests receive first-class accommodations and dine on gourmet cuisine prepared by our hand-picked culinary staff. The trophy-class fishing, exhilarating wildlife, and spectacular scenery make Southeast Alaska’s 5-star adventure the trip of a lifetime!

Alaska Fly Fishing at Boardwalk Lodge: Alaska’s Boardwalk Lodge proudly participates in the elite Orvis® Endorsed Fly Fishing Lodge Program — a distinction that demonstrates our commitment to excellence and ensures that this fly fishing adventure will exceed your expectations. As part of this select program, Boardwalk outfits you with complete top-of-the-line Orvis fly fishing equipment. Of course, we certainly won’t discourage you from bringing your time-tested favorite fly fishing gear with you.

                   Alaska Flyfishing Lodge

Seasoned Orvis endorsed fly fishing guides will lead you in pursuit of numerous fish species at the hottest fishing holes at 23 lakes, rivers and streams on breathtaking Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. Your fly fishing excursions are typically accessed via Suburban. Although available, the added expense of a fly-out trip is completely unnecessary. Many of these waters are only fished when Boardwalk guests venture out, allowing you to cast and catch in solitude. Our native Alaska fishing opportunities include:

Note that all fly fishing equipment, including rods, reels, flies, waders, and boots are all part of your lodge package at no additional cost.

SALMON FLY FISHING: July heats up with seasonal Coho and Sockeye Salmon runs. Pinks, or humpies, and Dog Salmon typically start their journey in August. The majority of these Salmon have never seen an artificial fly, much less taken one. Brace yourself when these trophy Salmon hit — the fight is non-stop, and the action is exhilarating!

Silver Salmon Fishing: Coho Salmon, also known as Silvers, are among the hardest fighting Salmon in Alaska. Coho Salmon average between 12-15 pounds, with some topping out over 20. Intense fishing for Silvers ranges from late July through September.

Pink Salmon Fishing: While Pinks are the smallest of Salmon, they are pervasive in area waters — so much so that guests often claim they can walk across them. Alaska Pink Salmon average 3-5 pounds and are a thrill to catch on the fly.

Chum Salmon Fishing: Dog salmon, or Chums, are famous for their sheer tenacity and strength. Excellent Chum Salmon fishing is common from mid-July through August. These Salmon average 15 pounds with an occasional lunker topping 25.

Sockeye Salmon Fishing: Sockeyes, also called Red Salmon, can be rather tricky to catch in local waterways. Sockeyes are known for their tremendous fight.

One of the beauties of Boardwalk’s spectacular oceanfront location is versatility… If you ever tire of fly fishing you can climb aboard one of the lodge’s 28-foot heated cabin cruisers. Saltwater fishing trips launch from the dock each day with our Coast Guard licensed captains.

Native Steelhead: Early season action begins with one of Alaska’s most coveted game fish — wild Pacific Steelhead. These phenomenal fighters are native to the island, with typical trophy-class lunkers in the 29-37 inch range! Pacific Steelhead are fierce fighters that can quickly fold your rod and take you into backing. The lodge accommodates Steelhead fishermen from May 1 through May 31. Space is limited on Steelhead runs so be sure to book your trip early to ensure best reservations.

Cutthroat Trout & Dolly Varden: Year-round excitement abounds with the Cutthroat and Dollies in nearby waters. Local lakes, rivers and streams are teaming with Trout and Char. These fish are generally from 10-21 inches, and there’s certainly no shortage of action… Trout and Char are so plentiful, you can often catch and release to exhaustion!

Alaska Freshwater Fishing at Boardwalk Lodge:
Freshwater fishing — both spin casting and fly fishing — at Alaska’s Boardwalk Lodge is world-class in nearby rivers, lakes and streams, with easy access to 23 select waterways on breathtaking Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. Many of these neighboring waters are only fished when Boardwalk Lodge guests venture out, allowing you to cast and catch in solitude. The Island’s largest river, The Thorne, is just up the road from the lodge property on Thorne Bay. Freshwater fishing trips are easily accessed on the Island with our fleet of Suburbans. While this makes fly-out trips completely unnecessary, we do make fly-outs available for an additional cost.

Use of the lodge’s premium Lamiglas® rods, Shimano® reels, Orvis® waders and wading boots, and wet weather gear is included in your lodge package. We supply you with a wide range of equipment to fit the conditions and to meet your needs. Yet, while our equipment and tackle is all-inclusive to your stay, you may find helpful information below for packing along the time-tested freshwater fishing gear you just can’t do without.

Our experienced Alaska fishing guides – one for every two anglers in Steelhead season – will lead you to the most productive fishing holes on the Island. Our native Alaska fish species include:

* Steelhead Fishing
* Cutthroat Trout Fishing
* Dolly Varden Fishing
* Silver Salmon Fishing (Coho Salmon)
* Pink Salmon Fishing (Humpies)
* Chum Salmon Fishing (Dog Salmon)
* Sockeye Salmon Fishing

Alaska Saltwater Fishing at Boardwalk Lodge:
Saltwater fishing along Alaska’s Inside Passage — nearly due west of Ketchikan, Alaska — is a phenomenal experience! Join our experienced, U.S. Coast Guard licensed captains from early spring through late fall for a thrilling saltwater fishing excursion. Tangle with the fighting Chinook, or King Salmon, as well as four other salmon species. Or experience the thrill of hauling in one of Alaska’s monster Halibut that often range well over 100 pounds. These and several other species make for an exceptional sport fishing experience:

Alaska’s Boardwalk Lodge is home to trophy-class, saltwater fishing located throughout the deep fjords and emerald-green waters of Southeast Alaska’s Inside Passage.

Because of the oceanfront location of our lodge on the Inside Passage, we enjoy the comforts of fishing in relatively calm waters. This area is comprised of hundreds of islands, protected passages, bays and inlets; and the waters teem with fish and other aquatic life. Rarely do we fish more than 200 yards from land.

Our boats are 28-foot ocean cruisers, specially designed for your comfort and safety. Each is equipped with a heated cabin, flushing private toilet and all required tackle. In addition to being highly knowledgeable about local fishing areas and techniques, your saltwater captains are U.S. Coast Guard licensed, certified in First Aid and CPR.

In addition to our fleet of ocean cruisers and experienced captains, Alaska’s Boardwalk Lodge provides you with top-of-the-line saltwater fishing rods, tackle and bait. These include Lamiglas® and G.Loomis® rods paired with Shimano® or Penn® reels. Our staff cleans, fillets or steaks, vacuum packs, freezes and boxes your saltwater fish for your convenient transport home. Smoking your salmon is available at an additional cost.

Everyone from expert anglers to the occasional outdoorsman will thrill to see enormous Humpback whales surfacing, dolphins diving and otters playing in these pristine waters
