Elk, Mule Deer, Moose, Whitetail Deer

James A Smith Outfitting has been outfitting in Alberta, Canada since 1980. We offer our clients an exciting memorable hunting experience and will do everything we can to meet your expectations!
We offer two types of hunts:

September & October Elk hunts - archery & rifle.

November Whitetail, Mule Deer & Moose hunts - individual or combination.

Elk Hunting: This hunt is with horses during bugle season.
Basecamp is a 2 hour horseback ride from the trail head.
Hunts are 10 days long, but are flexible to individual needs.
We have canvas tents with wood stoves.
Our elk hunters will hunt both on foot and on horseback.

Meals & Lodging: basecamp cook will provide homecooked meals. We have canvas tents with wood stoves.

The zone we hunt is WMU # 418. This zone borders the East boundary of Banff National Park. It has a good Elk population with opportunities to take trophy bulls 6 pt. or larger. The Elk in this area have the genetic potential for good born growth at a young age. This contributes to our high success and quality of the bulls the hunters take. This zone is approximately 75 miles N.W. of Calgary in the Rocky Mountains.

Whitetail Deer, Mule Deer, Moose Hunting: This hunt which can be individual or in combination, takes place in the foothills of Central Alberta where we live. They are 1 week long, 6 hunting days.

Meals & Lodging: all meals & lodging provided during hunt.

The Deer and Moose season is from November 1 - 30 during the rut. We hunt both Deer and Moose on 2nd growth alfalfa fields, grain fields and along some of our creeks and streams. This area has rolling topography with bay and grain fields scattered throughout poplar and spruce trees, providing good habitat for our deer and moose. It has a good population of Whitetails, Mule Deer and Moose.

We recommend all our hunters come in good physical condition. It is fair to say that our Deer and Moose hunts are less physically demanding than our mountain hunts.

Transportation: Calgary International Airport is 70 miles from our home. We will pick you up and deliver you back upon completion of the hunt.

Meat Processing: We will look after the handling of your meat. If you wish we can take it to a meat locker where it can be processed and frozen. Upon completion of your hunt you can take it with you or have it shipped by air. The meat processing and shipping is the hunter's responsibility.
