Hunting in BC Canada for Big Horn Sheep, Elk, Moose, Mule Deer, Whitetail
Deer, Mtn Goat Black Bear, Grizzly Bear, Wolf, Bobcat and Lynx |
Kootenay Outfitters territory is located 3 hours S / SW of Calgary, Alberta. Our
area borders Kootenay Nat. Park to the West, Banff Nat. Park to the East and Mt.
Assiniboine Provincial Park to the North. Located 10 miles East of Radium Hot
Springs, B.C., our territory is close to tourist attractions and year round outdoor
attractions. Located in S.E. British Columbia, our territory is in the
heart of the Rocky Mountains. This area is called the Kootenay region of B.C.
Our territory covers approx. 900 sq. miles of some of the best wilderness big
game hunting found in North America. Our area's terrain varies from the majestic
mountain peaks cover with glaciers in the North to the expanse of the river valley's
to the South. High alpine meadows can be found throughout the area along with
log blocks, creating ideal habitat for the many different species found there.
We
have excellent pack and saddle horses to aid the hunter with travel in the territory.
Roomy wall tents along with 3 sets of cabins are used to house hunters. Several
spike camps are also used to access remote areas. Knowledgeable, experienced guides
will assist during your hunt. 4x4 and truck hunts are available for hunters not
interested in horseback hunting. Hunting: All tags are guaranteed
with no draw to apply for. Select your hunting dates and come hunt! We offer 1x1
or 2x1 hunts. Combo tags are available on any hunt. Elk
Hunting: Come experience the thrill of hunting elk during the peak of the
bugle. Our archery hunts begin on Sept. 1st with rifle season opening on Sept.
10th running thru Oct. 20th. All elk hunts are 7 full days of hunting. We are
restricted to 6 point (on one beam) or better bulls during rifle season. This
restriction properly manages the elk herd, insuring only proper age class bulls
being harvested. 300 class bulls are to be expected with opportunities at bulls
ranging from the 270-360 B&C class. Mtn.
Goat: This area consistently produces Billies in the 9"- 10"+ range. We boast
of a 100% shot opportunity for all goat hunters over the past three years. We
have two tags available for 2006. Grizzly: This is a limited quota
tag for Kootenay Outfitters. We typically only get 1 tag every 3 years so space
is limited. We have one tag for 2006 available. This is a hunt for big interior
Rocky Mountain grizzlies. Included in this ten day hunt is an additional black
bear tag.
Whitetails:
This tag is typically part of a combo hunt, but we do offer rut hunts in November.
Whitetails in this area range 120"- 140" but bigger bucks are found. Bucks are
typically found in the river bottoms or log blocks. Big Horn Sheep:
limited quota tag is sold out for 2006. We are booking now for 2007 & 2008.
This is a full curl restriction hunt with only big mature rams being legal. Typical
rams range 170-180, with the largest ram taken scoring 204B&C. Mule
Deer: We start our rifle hunts on Sept. 10th with the true rut hunts being
conducted in November. Bucks ranging from 140- 180 B&C are expected. These are
true "Timberline Mossbacks" bucks. Black Bear: Fall hunts
are offered, but our spring spot and stalk hunts are our most productive. No baiting
is allowed in British Columbia. We search log blocks, road ways and slide areas
for feeding bears in early spring. Bears in the 6'- 61/2' range with excellent
hides are the targeted animals. Color phase bears can be found. We also
offer bear hunts with hounds for those wanting to experience the thrill of the
chase!
Mt. Lion: We hunt exclusively for trophy toms. Hunts take place from December
to early February. Combination hunts can include Lynx and/ or Bobcat. Toms reaching
130- 160 lbs. are consistently found in this area. Shiras Moose:
Archery hunts in early Sept. give archers the opportunity to hunt the pre-rut
for bulls 40"-50"+ with the occasional 60" bull being found. Rifle hunts begin
Oct. 25. This also is a limited quota tag; we have 2 tags available for 2006.
Wolf: A wolf tag is recommended for all of our rifle hunts. These
animals are very elusive and wary. Taking a wolf is rare, but for those who do,
it's a true trophy of a lifetime! Come join us for great Canadian big game
hunting and a true wilderness adventure!
