GANA RIVER OUTFITTERS LTD has a well established reputation as a quality outfitting organization. We excel at providing quality hunts for Dall Sheep, Mountain Caribou and Alaska-Yukon Moose- all in the remote Mackenzie Mountains of Canada's Northwest Territories. Our exclusive outfitting tenure and virtually nonexistent resident hunting pressure enable us to provide quality trophy animals and the experience of a fantastic hunt in North America's last true wilderness.


We offer horseback or backpack hunts for single or multiple species from mid July through late September. Our success rates are consistently between 90 - 100% for all species. The average for rams in 2005 was 10 years of age with horns 37 inches long and bases of 13.5 inches. Mountain Caribou averaged 375-380 B&C and several were over 400, and the Moose were once again in the 60 inch class. Our base camp is quite comfortable and we even have electricity from our own hydro generator. There are private cabins, hot showers, freezers and coolers and of course a warm and friendly kitchen where you are always welcome. Our great crew will do there best to make your trip to the NWT the experience of a lifetime.

We have an excellent string of riding and pack horses that are used for the Dall Sheep & Caribou hunts when you choose to book a horseback hunt, and yes, we use the same ponies for the moose hunts! We run two separate horse camps for sheep in the summer, with a maximum of two hunters per camp. There is a guide for each hunter, and a cook/wrangler in each camp- though most of our wranglers are guides in their own right! Because we have a long established reputation as a quality outfitter, we can attract and keep quality staff.
