Hunting in Maine for Whitetail Deer, Bear and Moose |
Deer
Hunting: Our Whitetail deer hunts take place in the heavily forested
woods of Aroostook County.
Good genetics and harsh winter cause our deer herd to be comprised of
the largest deer in the country. Mature bucks approaching 300 pounds are
not uncommon. You can hunt from a stand overlooking a clearcut area or
watch a heavily used river or logging road crossing. Still hunting a thick
cedar swamp can produce some real excitement as well as a big buck.
Moose
Hunting: Maine's Moose Hunts are by lottery only, drawing for
which is held in June. (Application deadline April)
Mature bulls weigh close to 1000 pounds with some exceeding the half
ton mark. Their antlers can reach a spread of 60". Our Lodge is close
to the junction of 3 Moose hunting districts (WMD's #2-3-6). Districts
3 & 6, have the largest number of moose permits issued in the Northern
part of the state.
Bear
Hunting: Bear Hunts are for 6 Days - Arrive Sunday P.M. or Monday
A.M. Hunt begins Monday afternoon. Hunt ends Saturday at dark (if you
need to stay that Long). Depart Sunday A.M.
Most of our hunters only hunt the afternoons, as this is
the most active time for the bears. Most of our bears are shot in the
last two hours of the day. Most seasons produce a success rate of 50-80%
with 100% shot opportunities for our hunters!
Treestands:
are placed within 20 yards of the bait with some as close as 12 yards
for some great shot opportunities. We utilize both Loc-on type and Ladder/Platform
type stands. Most stands are approximately 12-15 feet high. Our stand
locations are carefully selected and are heavily baited for 30 days prior
to the beginning of the season. With plenty of choice, success proven bait
and locations to choose from, we can put all of our hunters on active
baits. Many bait locations produce multiple bear harvests during the season.
We will do our utmost to track and recover your bear for you.
Your bear will be skinned and quartered for you if desired
Food and lodging: are included in the price of the hunt. Licenses
are not included and are the responsibility of the hunters. Hunters must
provide their own transportation from the lodge to stands and return unless
other arrangements are made prior to hunting.
Snowmobiliing: Over 1600 miles of snowmobile trails
in Aroostook County.
