Deer Hunting on the California Coast for Blacktail Deer

Chalk Mt. Ranch is located in the coastal mountain range of Humboldt County. A 9000 acre ranch that has been in the family since 1884. We are a working cattle and timber ranch. We pride ourselves in our well maintained Douglas fir and oak forests and grasslands. We are mountainous with beautiful meadows. Elevations from 600 feet to 3000 feet. We offer a California Coastal Blacktail deer hunt. We have been in the guided hunting business since 1993 and have a great deer hunting history along with lots of family history.

Guided Hunts:
Managing our deer population is of the utmost importance to us. We only accept a limited number of hunters each year. We take only 4 hunters at one time. A guide and 4-wheel drive vehicle is provided. All hunts are spot and stalk. You may ride or walk as much as you want. We have many miles of well maintained roads and cattle trails.

Requirements:
California hunting license and tag required for B-1 zone. We allow only 1 tag per hunt. No guarantees. We do not allow shotguns or automatic guns. For non-resident information please call the California Dept. of Fish & Game. We require a 50% deposit to reserve a hunt. Balance due on arrival. No refunds for early departure and a 30 day cancellation mandatory. We do accept checks.

Lodging:
We offer three rustic and quaint cabins. They are completely outfitted for your comfort. A hot tub is nearby the cabins overlooking the lovely gardens. The Main Lodge offers a country log kitchen where our guests will enjoy all their meals. Hearty Ranch style meals are our specialty here. Any special food needs, please let us know in advance. The original log house was built in 1921 with wonderful additions in later years. The log beamed living room has a comfortable fireplace and numerous albums of old photos to browse through. The Barnwell family specializes in good old-fashioned hospitality.

Nearest towns are Fortuna, 45 minutes away and Eureka, 70 minutes away.
