Hunting in South Dakota for Pheasant, Waterfowl, Geese, Ducks,
Deer, Predator Coyote, & Fox

Ringneck Retreat is located in the quaint town of Hitchcock, South Dakota, about 157 miles northwest of Sioux Falls. It sits on 5000 acres, including 2500 prime hunting acres. The natural surroundings teem with Wild Pheasants, and they also provide excellent habitat for Ducks, Deer, Coyote, Fox, and yes, your occasional Jack Rabbit.

At Ringneck Retreat, we never manufacture a hunting experience. We're not a fenced-in preserve, and we don't raise animals for you to shoot. Instead, we simply share our incredible 2500 acres with guests, so you can enjoy a truly wild hunt alongside our expert guides and elite bird dogs.

Pheasant: South Dakota has three pheasant hunting seasons. The regular season opens the third Saturday in October and continues until December 31 or early January, as determined by the state. Youth can participate in a special two-day youth season, which occurs the first weekend in October. On pheasant hunts, we also encounter Sharptail Grouse, Prairie Chickens, and occasionally Hungarian Partridge. These are included with your hunting license; therefore, if we encounter these birds on a hunt, you can shoot them.
We also have Chuckar Partridges upon request (for an additional fee).

Fall Waterfowl: During the fall, we hunt Ducks, Snow Geese, Canada Geese, and Ducks. You'll be amazed at the incredible variety of Ducks, including Mallards, Redheads, Pintails, Canada Specks, Gadwalls, Scaups (also known as Bluebills), Blue-wing Teals, and Green-wing Teals.

Snow Goose
: The spring snow goose season lasts approximately 5-8 weeks, and the fall season lasts 10 weeks. Due to large populations, snow geese have been destroying tundra regions, so a harvest is desirable to keep their numbers in check.

Predator (Coyote and Fox): South Dakota allows hunting of coyotes and fox year round. If you are interested in joining us for a predator hunt, we recommend hunting between early January and mid to late March.

Your Guide:
When you join us for a hunt, you'll benefit from owner Darik's 30 plus years of hunting experience, as well as his warm hospitality and incredible passion for nature. Darik and his team of expert guides offer challenging hunts customized to fit your group or individual needs.

We offer guided hunts throughout the pheasant season as well as other hunting, fishing, and vacationing opportunities throughout the year. Other hunting includes Snow Goose, Predator (Coyote and Fox), and Deer.

Food & Lodging: When you finish hunting, relax in the comfortable, yet rustic, atmosphere of our log-cabin lodge. Built in fall 2006, our six-bedroom, four-bathroom lodge can accommodate up to 18 people. With log walls, imposing log staircases, and a breathtaking 2.5 story wall of windows, you'll feel close to nature even when you're relaxing indoors. Our staff brings a bit of elegance to your get-away as well, with delicious home-cooked meals and all the amenities you'll need to feel at home.

Local Attractions: We're located just two blocks from downtown Hitchcock, where you'll find a post office, the Hitchcock Fuel & Repair, Hitchcock Museum, Captain Tony's Bar, and DK's Hitchcock Café.
