Birch Hill Camps is located in Wytopitlock Maine, in the midst of Prime
Bear country—southern Aroostook County, and north Penobscot county which
is Wildlife Management District 11 in the eastern part of Maine. The terrain
ranges from rolling hardwood hills, to cedar swamps with thick, dense
underbrush, making for perfect Bear habitat. This area is mostly commercial
forestlands managed for timber, with old grown up farms around the highway
that cuts through the woods. The many roads that are put in to access
the timber for logging, gives us easy access to thousands of acres hunting
land, which I lease through North Maine Woods, for Bear hunting.
Guided
Black Bear Hunts: The typical Black Bear hunting season in Maine begins
the last week of August and closes in late September, offering a month
of great Black Bear hunting. Our guides provide you with stands that are
baited from July to the end of Bear season in September. The sites are
all set up with wooden treestands or box blinds with sites for both rifle
and bow hunting. The shooting lanes to the bait sites are cleared, the
sites themselves are made to provide the best shot possible and ready
to hunt when you arrive. Birch Hill Camps will skin your Bear and freeze
the hide and meat for your return trip. There is also the opportunity
to fish for Smallmouth Bass, in the mornings and after you gotten your
Bear, and we provide canoes for your use. The owner and hunting guide
"Steve" holds a Maine Master Guide License and grew up in these woods,
And will do every thing possible to provide a successful enjoyable hunt.
Our hunters have had excellent success, with up to 90% success with their
bear hunting depending on the group, hunting method, and year. Bear hunts
are limited to 25 hunters per year.
Semi-Guided
Bear Hunts: There is the opportunity for some Bear hunters, to do
an unguided Bear hunt you would stay in my camp in silver ridge and Bear
hunt my baits in that area. You would provide your own transpiration,
which should be a 4x4 truck and bait your own sites once you get here,
and possible your alternate sites. Birch Hill Camps will make every attempt
to assist you in tracking your Bear and removing it from the woods, but
you should be prepared to do this and to help out. Birch Hill Camps will
skin quarter it and freeze you’re Bear for you. Birch Hill Camps require
that you bring a cell phone and check in every night.
Guided
Deer Hunts: I offer guided Maine Deer hunts for bow and rifle, which
is a stand hunt I have stands and blinds, located on deer trails scrape
lines and rub lines. I will bring you out before day light check on you
around noon time at which time we may move to another location if I feel
there is a better chance, At dusk I will pick you up at your stand. We
may also do some still-hunting and tracking, but in my experiences this
is the hardest way to put a tag on a deer. We may see more Deer this way
but most often the deer are moving through the thick woods, and rarely
provided a shot.
Semi-Guided Deer Hunts / Camp Rental: I have 2 camps in Wytopitlock
and 2 camps in Silver Ridge TWP about 10 miles away, that I rent out to
Deer hunters. This is Sun. - Sat. I try to have you arrive at camp as
soon as possible, which in some cases such as the 1st week of the season
could be the Friday before. This gives us time so that I can go over some
maps and show you some of the roads and specific spots where you should
find some deer. If I have blinds or stands in the area you will be welcome
to use them. If your looking for still hunting or tracking opportunity
this is what I recommend, and will point out specific areas which will
help to make your hunt successful.
