Hunting in Montana for Elk, Deer and Mountain Lion

Indian Summer Outfitters is located in Darby, Montana. We offer hunting for Deer, Elk, and Lion. All Elk/Deer Combo licenses are guaranteed when hunting with a licensed outfitter. Application deadline of March 15th. Our Packers and Guides are dedicated professionals who take great pride in providing each guest with a quality experience. We cater to adventurers from 12 to 80 and enjoy showing the Bitterroot Mountains to hunters of all abilities. Our gentle horses are sure to show you a safe, comfortable journey through paradise.

Elk and Deer Hunting: Mule Deer are hunted in much of the same habitat as the Elk and there are some real monster mountain Bucks in the area. Montana hunting unit 270 is a Trophy Mule Deer area. There Bucks of 26 to 28 inches are downright common and Bucks of 28 to 30 plus inches and 180+ points are a very reasonable goal. This is truly some of the best Mule Deer hunting in the west right now. There is no extra charge for our Elk/Deer combo hunts. During rifle season there are only 3 of these hunts so hunters will want to book early or one year in advance to ensure availability.

All Hunts Include: Transportation to and from the airport in Missoula, Montana. All meals (except on drop camps) and accommodations, full time guide, all packing of downed game & transporting of your game, at your request, to our local processor for processing. Camping and game care is included as well and we have an excellent taxidermist in the area for those wishing to have their trophies mounted. We will also furnish your party with the necessary forms for license application and assist you in filling them out properly.

Not Included in Cost of Hunt:
Hotels, meat processing, guide and cook gratuities, and license fees. We will gladly make arrangements with hotels in Darby and Missoula for the evenings before and after your hunt. Lodge and lion hunters will only need the room prior to departure, not on arrival before their hunt.

Fully Guided Pack-In Hunts:All camps are set up by folks who spend the entire season up here and are as close to home as allowed by law. You may rest assured that your weeks stay will be a pleasant one under any weather conditions. Your days begin well before sunrise in the dining tent where a hot hearty breakfast, prepared by the camp cook, will fuel you for the days hunt. Don't forget your sack lunch which has been prepared for you with sandwiches, fresh fruit and snacks for you to enjoy in the field during a mid-day break.

Fully Guided Lodge Hunts: For hunters who would rather skip the horse ride and trade their saddle for t. v. and hot running water we offer lodge hunts conducted from the historic Rocky Knob Lodge. Right on the East Fork of the Bitterroot River with all the comforts of home, the Lodges central location makes this a great home base for your hunt. We host hunts for both older and younger clients as well as experienced and novice from the Rocky Knob. It would be impossible to send all of our clients out with the same game plan.

Semi-Guided Hunts:These hunts are also conducted from our deluxe tent camps. All the same amenities are here as in the fully guided camps. Your camp cook will prepare your breakfast and dinner and have your lunch ready to go each morning. Your camp guide will guide you for one full day of hunting to familiarize you with the area and show you some elk hunting techniques if you haven't hunted elk before. You will be given top maps and shown what areas to hunt and how to access them.

Drop Camps: For those with some experience hunting Elk and camping in the mountains. Camps consist of a dining tent and separate tent for sleeping quarters both with wood stoves and a supply of cut & split firewood. All amenities such as cots, propane lanterns & cook stoves and all tables, chairs and cooking utensils are included. There is also a covered outhouse facility. Meals are not included in drop camps and we will be glad to stop at any of the many places in Missoula or Hamilton for food items.

Archery Hunts: All bowhunting camps and services are the same as our rifle hunting packages. This is the time of year we all look forward to. The sound of bugling bulls ringing out from the creeks and peaks are sure to put a spring in your step. Myself and all of our bowhunting guides are true elkoholics experienced in the special needs and techniques of archery Elk hunting. Bowhunters guiding bowhunters. We are very mobile when hunting the Big Bulls during the rut as the varying weather can dictate where they are spending their time.

Mountain Lion Hunts: Immediately following the close of Elk and Deer season is the December 1st opening of Mountain Lion season. Southwestern Montana and the Bitterroot Mountains have a reputation for an excellent Lion population and highly successful hunts. We only host 4 lion hunters per year and our goal is to send everyone home with a cat. Regulations permit the harvest of male cats only and our houndsmen take great pride in knowing the travels routes of these big toms as they search for Deer in the lowlands.
