Hells Canyon Rifle Elk Hunt: This is a  traditional horseback rifle elk hunt conducted in Hells Canyon in IDFG unit 18. Our clients get the opportunity to use our outfitter allocated tags in this world renowned controlled hunt.  The hunts are eight days and are conducted out  of our wall tent camps and spike camps. We run quality hunts not quantity.  Each of our guests gets a true hunting experience without large camps or over hunted elk herds.  HCO specializes in harvesting herd bulls.  This in not a meat hunt, it is a hunt for the serious elk hunter ready to elk hunt aggressively for large bulls in some of North Americas toughest terrain.  Hunters are encouraged to make preseason physical fitness and marksmanship a priority.  We hunt hard and are willing to go the extra miles so being ready will only enhance your experience on this legendary hunt.

Hells Canyon Archery Elk Hunt: HCO also offers the same camp and guiding services for hunters lucky enough to draw one of the 75 revered archery tags in unit 18.  We will help you with the paper work to apply for this outstanding hunt.The services and facilities are the same as our traditional rifle hunt.  Hunters can expect the best a private remote wild elk hunt has to offer.  These hunts are also eight days so be ready for an archery hunt of a lifetime.

Salmon River Canyon Elk/Mule Deer Combo (Rifle or Archery) This combination hunt is a great hunt to consider. With our guaranteed tags, private land access and knowledge of the area we have the ability to put you on the game.  In our Salmon river canyon we hunt a combination of both frontcountry and backcountry. Doing this allows us to be versatile and not only pattern the elk and deer herds, but to cater to every hunters limitations as well. Its your choice, hunt the backcountry with wall tents, saddle and pack stock or the front country with Atvs and horses out of one of our comfortable private lodges. The elk herds are healthy and our success rates on bulls & bucks are high. The Mule deer on this hunt are not just an add on. The genetics have been improving every year in this unit and there have been several bucks in the 180"-200" range taken in this unit in the last few years. Bear and wolf are included in this hunt as well.

Mountain View Ranch (Rifle or Archery) At Mountain View Ranch the elk hunting is phenomenal and  is hunted exclusively by HCO. We manage the ranch specifically for hunting and offer an extremely limited number of elk hunts every year. We hunt using a combination of hiking, atv's and 4x4 vehicles. The terrain is rugged but accessible by old logging roads. Success rates are near 100% and most bulls taken on the ranch will range from 5×5’s to bulls in the 300-320 class. However, we have taken bulls as big as 370" in the past and every year monster bulls are seen on the ranch. These hunts are very limited and go fast so call now to schedule your hunt.

All of our pack in elk hunts are eight days long (6 full hunt days) and include food, guiding, trophy handling, meat packing and camping facilities.  Camp consists of cook tent, guest tent, guide tent, and out house.  Hunters rest on quality cots and pads with a wood stove to warm by.  Our accommodations are the best for a wilderness setting.  They are remote hunts so there aren't fancy chefs but nourishing hot meals are a staple with good food.  Clients are guided daily off of our seasoned saddle stock.

Hells Canyon Trophy Mule Deer Hunt: Our Hells Canyon trophy mule deer hunts range from alpine hunting in the early season to hunting the folds of the breaks of the Snake River in the late season in IDFG unit 18. Hells Canyon has some of the best mule deer habitat you will find anywhere in the west. With the high alpine meadows of the Seven Devils Mountains and the steep grass breaklands of Hells Canyon. This remote and rugged country allows these bucks to reach their full potential. Muley hunts are seven days long and are conducted deep in Hells Canyon Wilderness area. These are also traditional western hunts conducted off of pack and saddle stock.  Hunters can expect to hunt out of a wall tent camp and also utilize spike camps on the hunt. We are only allocated four of these tags and harvest only large mature muleys. This hunt is for the serious hunter willing to put in some effort in the magnificent landscape of Hells Canyon for a true trophy.

Mountain View Ranch Trophy Mule Deer: The Mule Deer Hunting on this private ranch is extraordinary and it is hunted exclusively by HCO. We manage the ranch specifically for hunting and offer an extremely limited number of Mule Deer hunts every year. The bucks on this private ranch have seen very little hunting pressure. Hells Canyon Bear Hunt: If you are looking for an action packed hunt, our bear hunts are the hunt for you. The state of Idaho allows us to hunt these bruins three ways, spot and stalk, over bait and with the use of hounds. This allows us to personalize our bear hunts to each hunters hunting preferences and abilities. Our typical hunt consists of either spot & stalk or hound hunting in the mornings and sitting on the baits in the evenings. Having all of these hunting tactics at our disposal  swells our success rates near 100%.

HCO hunts bears in both the spring and fall. Our spring hunt is the most popular when the bears are just out of hibernation and still have their prime winter coats.Both Hells Canyon and the Salmon River canyon hold an extremely high population of color phase bears; red, cinnamon, blonde, chocolate and everything in between. We strongly recommend the hound hunting, If you are looking for an adrenaline-charged hunt; this is it. It is hard to put into words the level of excitement that this hunt provides. Although our territory is some of the most rugged you can find in North America, all of the private ranches that we lease give us excellent access to our hunting area. This allows us to to run our hounds for almost all of our clients, regardless of physical ability.We hunt spring bears Late April - Early June and fall bears in September. Mountain Lion/Wolf Combination Hunts: At Hells Canyon Outfitters Mountain lion hunting is not just something we do in the off season, It's our passion. Every year we take multiple record book Toms and consistently take bigger lions than the competition. A Mountain Lion hunt can be one of the most challenging and exciting hunts in North America. Our Lion and Wolf hunts are conducted in both Hells Canyon and in the Salmon River Canyon along with over 25,000 acres of private land.   Cougars are plentiful due to the increase in our elk and deer herds.  These hunts are exhilarating chases through Idaho's pristine winter landscape.  Our hounds are some of the best in the business and our success rates are near 100%. These hunts are based out of one of our comfortable Hunting lodges In the area we are hunting. With our large area and top of the line equipment we are able to personalize each lion hunt to every hunters ability.

Hunters can also hunt wolves on down days or later in the day when not cougar hunting.  Calling and spot & stalk are the primary methods of take.  Due to the steep open terrain of our canyons, the frequency of wolf sightings is very sporadic.  Wolves encountered here are typically moving through the area because the habitat of our canyons is not preferred by these vermin.

Idaho Whitetail Hunting: Our Backcountry Whitetail hunt is conducted at the remote Gilmore Ranch. This Historic Rach sets in the middle of tens of thousands of acres of public land. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to venture into a very remote roadless area and hunt bucks that have never seen hunting pressure. We lodge in the original 1930’s Barton Cabin. This historical homestead cabin is nothing fancy but it keeps us warm and comfortable during this late season hunt and adds a very distinctive element to your trip.

At the Gilmore Ranch, most of the bucks we take are  between 130″ and 180″  every year.To date, we have had a continuous 100% success rate on deer hunts. Mountain Goat Hunts: Hells Canyon Outfitters operates in units 18 and 22 for Mountain Goat hunting. Our permitted area takes in all of goat hunting unit 18 except for the small portion of unit 23 in the rapid river drainage of controlled hunt 6002. Our permitted area in 22 takes in the most southern end of unit 22 atop the breaks of the Snake River of controlled hunt 6003.  Hells Canyon Outfitters prefers to hunt the last of the season when the goats are prime and have moved to their winter range high above the Snake River.  Hunters can expect a very arduous and exciting hunt for these cliff dwelling trophies.  Hunting for goats will require hunters to be in good physical condition and be willing to spike out overnight from base camp to access the goats.  Unit 18 and 22 have very healthy populations of goats and hunters can expect to glass several goats on their hunting trip. Our guides have the experience and skills to navigate you to the prime hunting areas during the best time to harvest your trophy goat.The hunt includes lodging, meals,transportation and trophy care during your hunt.

The Permit application period for Mountain Goats is April 1- April 30 and successful applicants will be notified by June 10.   Hunters can apply at http://fishandgame.idaho.gov for controlled hunts and the purchase of resident and nonresident hunting licenses.
