Weare’s outfitting has been in operation since 1998. We conduct some of the greatest-guided big game hunts in North West Montana. We offer Elk, Deer, Black Bear, Mountain Lion and Wolf hunts in Montana as well as consult and guide Brown/Grizzly Bear and Moose hunts in Alaska.
My name is Ben Ulrick and I have been hunting this area since I was a child. I have been guiding right here since 1992 and had been the head guide at Weare’s since the beginning of operation in 1998.
Archery Elk Hunts:Our Archery Elk hunts take place in September during the Elk rut. This is the season that the love crazed bulls become vulnerable to being called into archery range. This is without a doubt the most exciting and active hunt that we offer.
Hunting this season requires quite a bit of walking, some days more than others. The theory is to keep covering ground until you find a bull that is responsive and susceptible to being called in.
Rifle Elk/Deer Combo Hunt:Our rifle season begins the end of October and runs 5 weeks through Thanksgiving weekend. The fortunate thing about the rifle season in this area is that the Elk and either species of deer are open at the same time in the same area. By this time the Elk rut is pretty much over, although we do hear a few bugles in rifle season. In this area we have both Mule Deer and Whitetail Deer. Both species rut during this time, the Mule Deer earlier than the whitetail, but before close of the season both have hit their peak rut.
Spring Bear Hunt: What a great time of year to go for a big game hunt. Winter is over and the weather is finally nice again. In Montana all Black Bear hunts are fair chase (no baiting and no hound hunting). We have a very healthy Black Bear population with a very high percentage of beautiful color phase Bears.
With an incredible Bear population paired with beautiful spring weather this hunt is not only a great high success rate hunt, it is also a wonderful vacation.
Mountain Lion Hunt: The Mountain Lion population in this area is very healthy to say the least. Several years of harvest mismanagement has severely elevated the Lion population. We have enjoyed a 100% success rate on Lion hunts since before 1992. Lion season begins the first of December and runs through mid-April.
Moose / Sheep / Goat Hunts: These licenses are all on very limited special permit drawing. The deadline to put in for these drawings is May 1st. If you are interested in applying contact us as non-resident availability differs from year to year. If you are fortunate enough to draw one of these elusive tags your best opportunity for success is to book a hunt with us.
